Medical Grade Skin Care
Only physicians can offer products and services that have high levels of concentrated ingredients that help to reduce signs of aging and environmental pollutants. The levels of active ingredients in our products are higher than over-the-counter products and are sold only in our office and medical spa.
Essential Ingredients
Vitamin A
Generally used as the ester form (retinyl palmitate, retinyl acetate), but also as retinol and beta-carotene which help to prevent and reverse established photo-aging as much as possible, and to improve hydration. Vitamin A has long been known as the “skin vitamin” but only recently has attention been focused on it as a “normalizer” of skin and an indespensable factor in the maintenance of youthful, healthy skin.
Vitamin A will always be an essential nutrient that has to be replaced each day for a healthy, youthful appearance. The proper way to supply vitamin A to the skin is directly on the surface areas of skin that particularly need it. Oral supplementation of vitamin A is important, but can never be adequate enough to treat skin intensively.
Intensive Vitamin C
Besides is basic action as a free radical scavenger, vitamin C has an important part to play in the formation of collagen and when combined with vitamin A, skin laxity can be treated more effectively. It also facilitates in the reduction of pigmentation blemishes. For the healthiest, most radiant skin vitamin C is essential.
Antioxidants (Free Radical Quenchers)
Used to counteract the effects of free radical formation, natural antioxidants are vitamins C, E, B5, beta-carotene, antioxidant plant extracts in Green Tea (which is amongst the most powerful of known antioxidants), Lycopene, Rosemary Leaf extract, witchhazel and Lutein. Antioxidants absorb unstable free radicals formed in skin cells by ultra violet light, and minimize their harmful effects, even after sunburn.
Both UV-A and UV-B Sunscreens
Whenever possible, inorganic or physical sun reflectors should be used, which contain the active ingredients zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. The reason why we prefer inorganic sunscreens is that they do not cause any skin irritation and they are not absorbed into the skin, which could cause long term problems. They are the safest sunscreens available and also the best ones for UV-A and also very powerful UV-B screens. Another point is that when they are subjected to UV light, they do not alter their chemical structure and do not become free radicals. Organic sunscreens may change into free radicals and when they are exposed to sunlight, their SPF value gradually diminishes. The SPF factor is not affected by the length of time that an inorganic sunscreen is exposed to the sun.
Growth Factors
Through normal aging and photo-aging, the production and level of growth factors decrease, resulting in fine lines and wrinkles. By supplementing orally and topically, growth factors play an integral role in stimulating the skin’s ability to repair damage caused by the effects of aging and too much sun.
Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids
Natural, organic acids found in nature are grouped as Alpha or Beta Hydroxy Acids, depending on their molecular structure. AHAs promote natural exfoliation of the dead and dying cells of the outermost layer of the skin by dissolving the intercellular “glue” between these cells. The cells beneath are newer, fresher and less dehydrated. This gives a softer and smoother appearance to the skin.
BHA in the form of salicylic acid is lipid soluble, therefore can penetrate through sebum to reach lower dermal layers of the skin. This eliminates acne-causing bacteria and helps to restore and normalize the irritated skin surrounding the pore. BHAs have proven to be both effective and gentle in exfoliating and decongesting the skin.
